Transgenicos Fora mobilises against patents on life.
The organisation GM Free Coalition (Plataforma Transgénicos Fora – PTF) is a platform for many portuguese associations and organisations who fight for sustainable agriculture as well as for the protection of biodiversity and the right over Humanity’s genetic heritage. The focus is on genetic engineering and alternatives to pesticides in conventional agriculture. Through media releases and various interventions, such as interviews, debates, etc, the Coalition has been the country’s major force in public awareness raising around these subjects.
Lately PTF also started working against patents on life since biodiversity and the access to common genetic resources are at stake. And now these patents on barley and beer really demonstrate how official decisions are biased towards private interests!

Carlsberg/Heineken beer brands in Portugal
In Portugal Super Bock and Sagres are the two largest competitors and together they hold the highest market shares. Superbock and the well-known associated brands Cristal and Cheers are produced by the company Unicer of which 44% are owned by the Carlsberg-group. The beer brand Sagres is entirely owned by Heineken.
